The second Garstang scarecrow festival

Last year we stumbled across this little festival through the power of facebook and it was amazing so I thought we'd go an explore it again this especially since the theme was heroes and villains (my boy is super hero mad!).

This free fun family event set in the charming town of Garstang that runs over a weekend that starts on the friday afternoon right into sunday. They had lots of events on over the weekend: a family fun fair, face painting, live music, pebble hunting, barge trips and of course the scarecrow trail.

Due to a family event on saturday, we went on sunday. There was parking in a field just off Kepple lane for a charity donation so we gave £5 and got the programme with that. Inside was a map of the trail and a separate sheet of all the scarecrows that were on show.

You hit the scarecrows as soon as you leave the car park. We turned right a followed road up over the canal. From the map we did the outer circle first and then made our way towards Moss Lane playing fields for some dinner. We saw some fantastic scarecrows. People put in a lot of effort into some of these this year!

They had everything from film superheroes....

...to book .....

....to disney....

...to real life heros.

Then the villains...

And lots lots more

There were prizes for the best ones for different groups: children 10 & under, children 11-17, adults, community groups, independent traders, schools and the peoples vote!

With us going sunday we only had until 12pm to vote so we didn't have time too as we had not seen them all.

This was one of my favorites! They had Vera Lynn playing in the background.

This was my other favorite as I LOVE The Little Mermaid!

This came second in the people's vote and the RAF heros came first in the independent traders and businesses (it was outside the Royal mail offices).

This "I am Groot" was Isaac's winner of the day which came 3rd in the community groups catagrey.

After the scarecrow trail we had a lovely little walk along the Lancaster Canal where you could have had a free 30 min barge ride but there was a que and a 40 minute wait so we decided the walk would be better.

All in all a lovely day out and the sun even came out to play. I would highly recommend for next year if you are interested. They will be doing it all again 3rd - 5th July 2020.
